Travel Experts Warn Of Fake Online Reviews

Nowadays, the internet is the best way to scope out opinions on your next holiday location, but recently some travelers have suffered problems after believing what was written about the hotels.

Some have discovered that “within walking distance” could mean up to two miles away. A glowing review for that hotel may well have been written by its own manager. and a bad one may have been written by an ex-employee. Some companies have preferential treatment to some travel reviewers if they were to praise the hotel without having actually been there. For the travel industry, these kind of fake reviews are a leading concern.

Some companies will take action against these fake reviews, banning those who have written it, or taking legal action. Experts say that the key is in the number of reviews, allowing the consumer to have some kind of consensus. They also suggest that those looking for a hotel be wary of those reviews that are too perfect.

The best thing you can do use on line search engines and do a little investigation on the hotel you decide to stay, use google's photos search engine, look for photos of the rooms, emplacement, etc.

Sometimes when we go to a place we have never been before, we may find a great hotel only to discover that it's in an ugly neighborhood or so far from the city's points of interest that we have to spend more money on taxis than the difference of price with a nice hotel at the very center; I'm sure this has happened to many of us, probably several times before we realized that we have to some research before choosing a hotel, not only because we want a nice one, but because we want to stay in hotel that fulfills the following conditions:

1. It's in a safe area: You don't want to be so scared to leave your hotel that you end up knowing all the cable channels they offer.

2. It's reasonably close to the center: Cities, above all in Europe, tend to have all their interesting things around their historical center. So either you spend a little more in a nice hotel in the center or you tone down your necessities and accept that 2 star hostel that they offered you in the agency. Try to get a map of the city with the points of interest indicated on it, then look for your hotel in the map, if it falls outside its borders, then it's time to change your lodging plans.

3. Avoid hotels that describe themselves as: cozy, pintoresque, familiar...etc; they really mean, small, run down and that the owner will be on too chatty and nosy, so unless you feel like really get to know the locals or you are traveling by yourself looking for meeting people, stick to more professional descriptions.

So you thought Internet would make things easier for you huh! the bad news is that it's indeed more difficult to choose the right hotel, the good, but the good news are that you'll be able to find better places to stay than the one a travel agent would recommend you (because he is being paid to do so) by doing some research on the Internet and also you have more to choose from.
